Jackson, Mississippi – An EF-1 tornado with winds up to 90 mph touched down near North Pelahatchie on Monday afternoon, carving a 3.25-mile path across Rankin County.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the tornado struck between 3:01 and 3:10 p.m. CST on May 26, with a maximum width of 70 yards. No injuries or fatalities were reported, but survey teams confirmed visible damage consistent with a mid-range EF-1 twister.

The tornado developed just northeast of Pelahatchie, briefly tracking near Langford and Goshen Springs before lifting. The National Weather Service issued preliminary damage survey results Tuesday morning, showing the storm’s narrow but forceful impact.

Residents in the Rankin County area are encouraged to review severe weather safety plans, as May often brings renewed thunderstorm activity across central Mississippi. With warm, unstable air lingering this week, additional pop-up storms cannot be ruled out.

The NWS will continue monitoring conditions and may release further updates if new damage paths are identified.
