Memphis, TN – A tornado watch remains in effect until 1 p.m. CDT Saturday for multiple counties across Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas as severe weather threatens the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the tornado watch includes the Mississippi counties of Coahoma, Marshall, Panola, Quitman, and Tate. In Tennessee, the affected areas include Fayette, Hardeman, Hardin, and McNairy counties. Meanwhile, parts of southeastern Arkansas—Ashley and Chicot counties—are also under the watch, along with the Louisiana parishes of Morehouse, Richland, and West Carroll. Additionally, Mississippi’s Bolivar, Sunflower, and Washington counties are included in the alert.

Residents in these areas, including cities such as Clarksdale, Holly Springs, Batesville, and Greenville, are urged to remain vigilant as conditions may become favorable for tornado development. The NWS advises people to monitor local weather alerts and be prepared to take shelter if warnings are issued.

The tornado watch means atmospheric conditions are conducive to tornado formation, but one has not yet been confirmed. If a tornado warning is issued, residents should seek immediate shelter in a sturdy building, preferably in an interior room on the lowest floor.

Severe thunderstorms are also expected, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Travelers should exercise caution and stay updated on changing conditions.
