Mississippi residents should prepare for dangerous weather conditions on Sunday as the National Weather Service has issued an enhanced risk for severe storms. Central Mississippi, including areas along I-55 and I-20, faces the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, the severe weather threat will begin Sunday afternoon and continue through the evening hours. A squall line with wind gusts exceeding 60 mph is expected to move through areas such as Jackson, Meridian, and Hattiesburg. A few tornadoes could develop, especially after sunset, making conditions even more hazardous.

Officials are urging residents to take precautions now. “Have a safety plan and a way to receive warnings overnight,” local emergency management teams advised. Secure loose outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor weather alerts closely.

This storm system will bring heavy rainfall to much of Mississippi, with localized flooding possible in low-lying areas. Drivers along I-20 and I-55 should be prepared for reduced visibility and slick roadways.

Looking ahead, Mississippi’s weather will improve by Monday, with cooler temperatures and sunny skies expected through midweek. Highs will drop into the 50s, with overnight lows nearing freezing in some areas.

Stay updated with local weather alerts and take action to stay safe during Sunday’s storm system.
