Jackson, MS – Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit Jackson and surrounding areas on Wednesday afternoon, with damaging wind gusts posing the primary threat. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a marginal risk alert for central and southern Mississippi, emphasizing the importance of preparation for potentially hazardous weather.

According to the NWS, isolated severe storms are anticipated to develop across the region from noon through 10 p.m. These storms may produce winds strong enough to cause property damage and disrupt power. The NWS warns that gusts could exceed 20 mph, and residents should secure outdoor items and prepare for possible outages. Motorists, especially those traveling on major routes such as I-20 and I-55, are encouraged to remain vigilant for sudden changes in visibility and road conditions.

Wednesday’s high is expected to reach around 75°F with thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m., continuing into the evening hours. Rainfall accumulation could total up to an inch in some areas, potentially causing localized flooding. Showers and thunderstorms may linger into Wednesday night as temperatures drop to the mid-50s.

Looking ahead, Thursday will bring clearer skies and a high of 69°F, with mostly sunny conditions expected to continue through the weekend. Cooler nighttime temperatures will persist, dipping into the 40s.

Residents are advised to monitor updates from local news and the NWS as the storm approaches. Staying informed and taking early precautions could reduce the risks associated with these storms.
