Jackson, Mississippi – Strong to severe thunderstorms will threaten much of Mississippi through Sunday night and again Monday afternoon, raising concerns over damaging wind gusts, hail, and a low-end tornado risk across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) is in effect for northern Mississippi—including Greenwood, Eupora, and Columbus—where storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of quarters. A marginal risk (Level 1) extends as far south as Jackson, Vicksburg, and Meridian, where isolated severe storms are still possible.
Storm activity will be most active Saturday evening through Sunday night, followed by another round Monday afternoon into the evening. Locations like Yazoo City and Philadelphia could experience multiple waves of thunderstorm development, which may impact travel and outdoor plans.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, remain weather-aware, and have multiple ways to receive warnings—especially overnight. Power outages are possible where stronger cells develop.
Additional updates are expected Sunday morning. Storm risks continue into Monday evening, and more alerts may be issued.
