Jackson, Mississippi – Dangerous heat stress conditions are expected to intensify across Mississippi this week, especially west of Interstate 55 and along the Highway 49 corridor, where heat indices could climb as high as 110°F by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, temperatures in the mid-90s paired with high humidity will drive heat indices above 105°F across much of the state through next weekend. A Level 2 “Elevated” heat risk is already in effect for areas like Yazoo City, Vicksburg, and Brookhaven, while regions east of I-55, including Meridian and Philadelphia, remain under Level 1 “Limited” risk for now.

Rain chances remain low today but could increase later in the week, especially along the Highway 84 corridor. While rain could temper heat levels slightly, dangerous conditions may persist until storms develop.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, and limit outdoor activity. Wear light clothing, check on neighbors and pets, and never leave anyone in a parked vehicle. Signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, nausea, and confusion—seek medical help if symptoms appear.

Heat headlines may be extended as conditions evolve. Stay tuned to local advisories for updates.
