Jackson, MS – Mississippi residents woke to frosty conditions Saturday morning, but improving weather is on the way for the remainder of the weekend. Travelers can expect a sunny Sunday before rain returns ahead of Thanksgiving.

The National Weather Service in Jackson reported that a freeze warning, which expired at 8 a.m. Saturday, brought subfreezing temperatures as low as 31°F to parts of central and eastern Mississippi. Saturday afternoon will see highs reaching the mid-60s, with sunshine making for a pleasant day across the region.

Sunday promises even warmer conditions, with highs nearing 72°F under clear skies, offering favorable weather for travelers along major routes such as Interstate 55 and Highway 20. By Sunday night, partly cloudy skies will settle in with lows around 57°F.

The Thanksgiving travel week begins with mostly sunny weather on Monday and highs peaking at 78°F. However, rain chances increase Monday night, with a 70% likelihood of showers potentially impacting travel plans, especially on highways. Winds could gust up to 20 mph, creating slick driving conditions on roads like Highway 49.

Looking further into the week, Tuesday offers a sunny reprieve with highs near 65°F, but by Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day, a stronger weather system could bring scattered thunderstorms and a 60% chance of rain. Motorists should remain cautious and prepare for wet roadways during peak holiday travel times.

Residents are encouraged to protect sensitive vegetation and monitor forecasts for potential changes, especially as rain develops later in the week.
