Leakesville, MS – A flood warning remains in effect for the Chickasawhay River at Leakesville, with minor flooding ongoing and expected to continue until early Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, the river level was recorded at 21.7 feet as of 6:15 p.m. Thursday, exceeding the 20-foot flood stage. The water is expected to recede below flood stage by Friday evening and continue falling to 11.6 feet by Tuesday night.
Flooding of low-lying areas and some roads remains a concern, with water potentially cutting off access in certain locations. Residents in Greene and George counties should exercise caution, avoiding flooded roads and low-lying areas.
Authorities urge motorists to follow safety protocols, including “Turn around, don’t drown” warnings, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
