Mississippi Flood Warning: Big Black River Rising in Multiple Counties Until Wednesday

Jackson, MS – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a Flood Warning for the Big Black River, impacting multiple counties in central Mississippi. The warning is in effect through at least Wednesday morning, with minor flooding expected in several areas.

According to the NWS, water levels are rising near Bentonia, Bovina, and West, affecting Yazoo, Madison, Warren, Hinds, Holmes, and Attala counties. The Big Black River is forecast to exceed its flood stage at various points, leading to possible flooding in low-lying and agricultural areas.

Bentonia: As of Friday morning, the river level was 21.4 feetand is expected to reach 24 feetby Saturday, surpassing the flood stage of 22 feet.

Bovina: The river is currently at 26.6 feetand is expected to exceed the flood stage of 28 feetby Friday afternoon, continuing to rise.

West: Flooding is expected early Saturday morningas the river hits its 15-foot flood stage.

Residents in affected areas should be cautious and avoid driving through flooded roads. The NWS advises, “Turn around, don’t drown,”as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
