Jackson, MS – A winter storm is expected to impact much of Mississippi starting Thursday evening, bringing significant snowfall and hazardous ice accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Thursday evening through Friday evening for Carroll, Choctaw, Clay, Lowndes, Montgomery, Oktibbeha, and Webster counties. These areas could see 2 to 4 inches of snow and up to one-tenth of an inch of ice. Additional advisories are in place for portions of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and northwest Mississippi, where ice accumulations could reach a quarter of an inch.
Forecasters warn that roads, especially bridges and overpasses, are likely to become slick and dangerous. Hazardous conditions may disrupt Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes, creating challenges for drivers in affected regions.
