Jackson, Miss. – Severe thunderstorms packing damaging wind gusts and intense lightning remain a threat across parts of Mississippi and southeast Louisiana through 1 p.m. Tuesday, prompting a multi-county alert for both states.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Jackson and New Orleans, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 336 continues for 25 counties and parishes across the region. Winds up to 60 mph and isolated hail are possible in areas including Hattiesburg, Meridian, Laurel, Gulfport, Baton Rouge, and Slidell. The storm system is expected to move eastward throughout the late morning and early afternoon.

In Mississippi, central and east-central counties such as Scott, Newton, Clarke, and Lauderdale are under the watch, along with southern counties like Forrest, Lamar, and Jones. Louisiana parishes impacted include St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Livingston, and Ascension, with storms already passing through McComb and Bay St. Louis.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and be alert for fallen limbs and downed power lines. Residents should secure outdoor items and charge mobile devices in case of outages.

The severe thunderstorm watch expires at 1 p.m., but forecasters warn that additional warnings or advisories could be issued later today as conditions evolve.
