Duluth, MN – A mix of freezing drizzle, snow, and dense fog is creating hazardous travel conditions across northeastern Minnesota today, with additional snow expected Monday. Residents should prepare for slick roads and limited visibility, especially along the I-35 corridor and in higher terrain near the North Shore.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. Sunday, warning of freezing drizzle and light ice accumulations that could impact bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways. A Dense Fog Advisory is also in place until 6 p.m., with visibility reduced to a quarter-mile or less, particularly around Duluth and Cloquet.
Looking ahead, a low-pressure system will bring light snow across the region late Sunday into Monday. Snowfall totals of up to 2 inches are possible, primarily north of the Iron Range. Elsewhere, accumulations will remain below an inch, though gusty winds up to 25 mph on Tuesday may lead to blowing snow.
By midweek, temperatures will drop significantly. Monday’s high will hover around 32°F, but by Wednesday, highs will struggle to reach 14°F with partly sunny skies. Overnight lows will dip into the single digits, increasing the risk of icy conditions into the morning commute.
Travelers are urged to allow extra time, reduce speeds, and use low-beam headlights in foggy conditions. Residents should also take precautions when walking on sidewalks or steps as surfaces may become icy.
