Duluth, MN – A significant winter storm is bearing down on northern Minnesota, with heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions forecast through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Koochiching, North St. Louis, Northern Cook, Lake, and Southern Cook counties. Snowfall totals are expected to range from 3 to 12 inches, depending on location, with isolated areas along the Canadian border and high terrain near the North Shore seeing the highest accumulations.

The warning for Koochiching and North St. Louis counties, including International Falls and Voyageurs National Park, predicts 3 to 8 inches of snow by Monday morning. Meanwhile, Northern Cook and Lake counties could see 4 to 9 inches, with higher totals near Isabella. Southern Lake and Cook counties, including Silver Bay and Grand Marais, may experience accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 35 mph.

Wet and heavy snow, combined with icy road conditions, is expected to make travel hazardous, particularly during the Monday morning commute. Motorists are advised to exercise caution, and those traveling should keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
