Duluth, Minnesota – Strong storms and sizzling heat will clash in Minnesota this week, bringing a volatile mix of wind, rain, and July 4th travel disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a round of isolated thunderstorms is possible late Tuesday in the Arrowhead region. But the main threat begins Wednesday, with stronger storms pushing into northeastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin by the afternoon. Winds could gust up to 60 mph, with penny- to quarter-size hail and frequent lightning likely.
By Thursday evening, another round of storms is expected—some of which could turn severe. Areas along the I-35 corridor, including Duluth, Cloquet, and Hinckley, should prepare for heavy rainfall, which may trigger localized flash flooding into Friday and Saturday.
Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s by Friday, with high humidity and heat indices in the mid-90s. Outdoor plans for Independence Day could be disrupted by midday storms. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, avoid flooded roads, and keep hydration and cooling options ready. Heat Advisories may be issued.
Warnings remain possible through Saturday as the region enters an unstable summer pattern. Expect updates throughout the week.
