Duluth, Minnesota – Swimmers along Lake Superior should stay out of the water today as dangerous rip currents and high waves hammer Duluth’s beaches.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect until 10 p.m. CDT Monday for Minnesota’s Park Point and Wisconsin Point beaches. The alert warns of strong rip currents and powerful waves that could sweep swimmers away from shore.
Waves arriving in rapid succession can quickly exhaust even experienced swimmers. Officials strongly urge beachgoers to stay dry today, as rescue may not be immediate in these conditions. Anyone caught in a rip current should swim parallel to the shore to escape.
After a sunny and breezy start to the week, Duluth can expect increasing clouds and a round of showers Monday night, with a second chance of rain returning Tuesday afternoon. Some thunderstorms may also develop. Rainfall totals will be modest, but locally heavier downpours are possible with embedded storms.
Looking ahead, the weather turns more unsettled starting Wednesday, with multiple rounds of showers and storms possible through Saturday. Though highs will remain seasonable in the lower 70s, the increasing humidity and cloud cover will signal a shift in the summer pattern.
