Duluth, MN — Thunderstorms are forecast to return across much of Minnesota starting Thursday morning, bringing the potential for localized heavy rainfall, lightning, and small hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the best chance for embedded thunderstorms will be from midday Thursday through Thursday evening. Rainfall totals between 0.25 and 1 inch are expected across the state, with heavier amounts possible in localized pockets, particularly in eastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
Residents in cities such as Duluth, Grand Rapids, and Hibbing may see increased thunderstorm activity by Thursday afternoon, accompanied by lightning and the risk of small hail. Northwest Wisconsin, including Superior and Ashland, is also expected to experience these conditions into Thursday evening.
Motorists should prepare for reduced visibility and possible ponding on roads during heavier rainfall periods. Those with outdoor plans are urged to monitor forecasts and seek shelter during storms.
While storms are not expected to reach severe levels in most areas, isolated strong storms are possible in southern Minnesota. The threat window extends from early Thursday morning into Friday morning.
The NWS advises checking local alerts and preparing for potential brief power outages and travel delays during the storm system’s peak on Thursday evening.
