Duluth, MN – A powerful winter storm will impact northern Minnesota from Tuesday through Wednesday, bringing snow, ice, and strong winds. The storm could create dangerous travel conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain will move in early Tuesday before changing to rain by midday. By Tuesday evening, rain will transition to snow from northwest to southeast, continuing into Wednesday morning. Heavy snowfall is expected in Bayfield, Ashland, and Iron Counties, with accumulations reaching up to eight inches.

Strong northeast winds will develop on Wednesday, with gusts reaching 45 mph near Lake Superior and higher elevations. Blowing snow may create whiteout conditions, especially in open areas.

Travelers should prepare for hazardous roads, reduced visibility, and potential power outages. Officials advise keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including blankets, food, and flashlights.
