Duluth, MN — A dangerous winter system rolling into northeast Minnesota Sunday brings a mix of snow, ice, and strong winds that could significantly impact travel through midweek.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Carlton and South St. Louis counties, including Duluth, through 5 p.m. CDT Sunday. According to the advisory, snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected Sunday, with gusts nearing 40 mph near Lake Superior. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, may become slick and hazardous.
Conditions will briefly calm on Monday with sunny skies and highs near 39°F. However, another storm arrives Tuesday evening with a 90% chance of heavy snow. According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, areas from the North Shore to the Twin Ports could see 6 to 10 inches of snow by Wednesday night.
Motorists should use caution and check Minnesota 511 for road conditions. Visibility may drop quickly during heavy snow and gusty winds, especially along U.S. Highway 2 and near the lakefront.
