Duluth, MN – Smoke will drift back over Duluth Thursday as Minnesota enters a stretch of warm, breezy, and increasingly unstable weather.
According to the National Weather Service, smoke from wildfires will reduce air quality Thursday across northeastern Minnesota. Duluth is expected to see hazy skies and a high of 74°F, with northwest winds at 5 to 10 mph. Residents with respiratory issues should limit outdoor activity. Visibility on U.S. Highway 61 may also be affected.
Friday will bring sunnier skies and a taste of summer. Duluth will warm to 77°F under mostly sunny conditions, with gusts up to 20 mph from the northwest. Winds shift southward by Saturday, holding temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s, but increasing fire danger across drier regions of the state.
By Sunday and Monday, the risk shifts from smoke to storms. Clouds will increase Sunday night, and the chance for thunderstorms returns by Monday afternoon and evening. Gusty winds up to 25 mph may accompany these storms, with lightning and brief downpours possible.
