Duluth, Minnesota – Smoke drifting across northern Minnesota is expected to clear out starting Wednesday, offering a brief return to drier skies and more seasonable temperatures before thunderstorms move in by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, daytime highs will stay near normal—ranging from the upper 60s to upper 70s—while smoky conditions from western wildfires should diminish as winds shift. Milky skies may linger into Wednesday, especially across northwest Minnesota.

Light rain and scattered storms are possible Thursday in central and southern areas, with more widespread rainfall expected Friday and Saturday. Cities like Hibbing, Grand Rapids, and the Iron Range could see localized downpours, embedded storms, and wet roads heading into the weekend.

Travelers should prepare for reduced visibility today and possible slick road conditions by Friday. Outdoor activities may be disrupted, especially Friday afternoon through Saturday night. Residents are encouraged to check NOAA weather radios and charge devices in case of isolated power outages.

Storm chances remain elevated through Saturday night, with a drier stretch possibly returning by Sunday.
