Duluth, Minnesota – Sunny skies and calmer conditions will settle over northeastern Minnesota on Wednesday, but it won’t last long. Breezy and much warmer weather will build across Duluth and surrounding counties by Friday, with wind gusts topping 30 mph and temperatures surging toward 78°F — the warmest stretch of the early summer season so far.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, Wednesday, May 28, will bring a mostly clear day with highs near 65°F and light east winds. Conditions remain mild into Thursday as sunny skies dominate and temperatures climb to 72°F. But by Friday, May 30, a noticeable uptick in warmth and wind will affect the region. Gusts could reach 30 mph, especially along US-53 and Highway 61, raising potential fire weather concerns through the weekend.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and remain alert for updates on burn restrictions or red flag warnings. Travel impacts are unlikely, but boating and outdoor activities may be affected by gusty conditions Friday through Sunday.

The weekend outlook shows little relief: Saturday stays warm and sunny, with highs near 70°F. Winds ease slightly by Sunday but remain active, especially in exposed areas.
