Duluth, MN – Dangerous wind chills and gusty winds are expected to continue through Monday night across Minnesota’s North Shore. Temperatures will plunge below zero, with wind chill values as low as -35 degrees, creating hazardous conditions for travelers and residents.
According to the National Weather Service, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through tonight, with gusts of 45 to 55 mph reported in Grand Marais earlier today. These conditions will bring blowing snow, sharply reducing visibility on roads like Highway 61. A Cold Weather Advisory is also in place until 10 a.m. Tuesday, warning of frostbite risks within 30 minutes of exposure.
Drivers should exercise caution, particularly on highways near Grand Portage, Silver Bay, and Two Harbors, where visibility could be further reduced by snow drifts. If you must travel, pack extra winter gear and let someone know your route.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain bitterly cold on Tuesday, with highs only reaching the single digits. Winds will diminish slightly but remain brisk. By Wednesday, conditions improve slightly, with highs climbing to the teens and winds easing. A warm-up to the mid-30s is expected Thursday and Friday, though light snow may return by the end of the week.
Residents should monitor local forecasts and prepare for extended exposure to frigid temperatures. Dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors when possible.
