East Grand Forks, MN – A wintry mix of snow and freezing rain could create hazardous travel conditions across west-central Minnesota tonight. Forecasters warn drivers to prepare for icy roads, particularly between 6 p.m. and midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, light snow and freezing rain are possible across southeastern North Dakota and west-central Minnesota. Even a small amount of ice can make untreated surfaces slick, so residents should exercise caution on roads and sidewalks.
Monday is expected to bring calmer weather with partly sunny skies and a high near 18°F, but icy conditions may linger from tonight’s precipitation. Winds will remain light Monday, with speeds increasing Monday night as temperatures dip to a low of 11°F.
Christmas Day will be mostly dry but chilly, with a high near 30°F. Gusty winds up to 22 mph could make conditions feel colder. Warmer weather is forecast for Thursday, with highs reaching 33°F and calmer winds.
Residents planning holiday travel should monitor local conditions closely and allow extra time to navigate potentially slick roads, particularly tonight.
