St. Paul, Minn. – Parts of southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin face a dangerous severe weather threat Monday, with damaging winds, large hail, and the potential for strong tornadoes expected from the afternoon into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, a Level 4 out of 5 “Moderate Risk” has been issued by the Storm Prediction Center for areas including St. Paul, Rochester, and Eau Claire. The first wave of storms could develop as early as Sunday night, with the most intense activity likely between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday.

All severe weather hazards are possible. Residents across St. Paul, Albert Lea, and La Crosse should prepare for frequent lightning, winds topping 70 mph, and large hail exceeding an inch in diameter. A few strong tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially along the I-90 corridor and U.S. Highway 52.

Outdoor plans should be adjusted, and those in mobile homes or vulnerable structures are urged to identify a safe place to shelter. Keep phones charged, enable Wireless Emergency Alerts, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

The severe threat may taper by mid-evening, but additional watches and warnings are possible as the system evolves. Stay weather-aware and monitor updates throughout the day Monday.
