Minnesota & North Dakota – Strong winds will continue across the Upper Midwest this weekend, bringing potential damage before calmer, milder spring weather returns next week.

According to the National Weather Service, a High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday, with northwest wind gusts up to 60 mph expected in northwest Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. These winds may bring downed trees, power outages, and hazardous travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.

By Sunday, winds will gradually weaken, though a chance of light snow remains in the early morning. Daytime temperatures will reach 31°F in East Grand Forks, with calmer winds in the afternoon.

St. Patrick’s Day (Monday) will bring a noticeable shift, with highs climbing to 43°F under partly sunny skies. Winds will be much lighter, improving outdoor conditions.

Looking ahead, Tuesday through Thursday will feature mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-to-upper 30s, with gradually warming temperatures heading into next weekend.

Safety Tips & Travel Impact

• Avoid unnecessary travel Saturday due to high wind risks.

• Watch for falling debris and power outages in affected areas.

• Use caution when driving high-profile vehicles on highways like I-29 and U.S. Highway 2.

With the worst of the wind expected to end Saturday evening, residents can look forward to a much calmer, milder stretch of spring weather in the week ahead.
