Duluth, MN – A snow squall warning remains in effect until 2:30 p.m. Friday for parts of St. Louis and Lake counties. The squall brings intense snow bursts and gusty winds, drastically reducing visibility.

At 2:05 p.m., the National Weather Service reported the squall near Babbitt, 24 miles south of Ely, moving east at 35 mph. Radar and webcam data confirmed the hazardous conditions, which include wind gusts over 35 mph and blowing snow. These conditions create sudden whiteouts, making travel treacherous.

Impacted areas include Babbitt, Seven Beaver Lake, and Greenwood Lake. Drivers are urged to slow down and prepare for sudden visibility drops.

In a separate advisory, another snow squall was detected near Nashwauk at 2:02 p.m., moving southeast at 40 mph. Affected locations include Hibbing, Nashwauk, and Keewatin, with similar impacts on Highway 169.

The NWS advises extreme caution during these rapidly shifting conditions. Motorists should delay travel if possible.
