Twin Cities, Minnesota – A widespread soaking rain will drench southern and eastern Minnesota by Sunday afternoon, with wet roads and potential ponding expected from Fairmont to the Twin Cities through early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities, rain chances spike above 60% across south-central Minnesota between 5 and 9 p.m. Sunday, with heaviest showers likely in Fairmont, Albert Lea, and Red Wing. Rain will then move northeast overnight, reaching Eau Claire and Ladysmith by early Monday. Totals of 0.5″ are likely for most of the region, with localized amounts between 1.25″ and 1.5″ from southeastern Minnesota into west-central Wisconsin.

Drivers should watch for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially along U.S. Highway 14, I-35, and I-94 corridors. Urban areas in the Twin Cities metro may see brief standing water during peak rainfall.

Residents are urged to check gutters and clear storm drains before the heaviest rainfall hits. Monday morning commutes could be slower due to lingering wet roads and early showers, especially east of the Mississippi.

Rain chances return Tuesday and Thursday, with updates expected as new systems develop later this week.
