Duluth, MN – A wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow is expected to hit northern Minnesota Saturday night into Sunday. The National Weather Service forecasts less than an inch of snow accumulation, with potential icy road conditions developing across the region. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and exercise caution while traveling.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to rise gradually through the weekend. After starting in the teens today, highs will reach the upper 20s on Saturday and low 30s by Sunday and Monday. A chance of snow Saturday morning could transition into a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet by the evening, especially along major roads like Highway 53 and Interstate 35.

Sunday will bring mostly cloudy skies with highs near 36, followed by a likely rain-and-snow mix overnight. Gusty winds up to 15 mph are also expected. Monday’s forecast shows rain early, transitioning back to snow late as temperatures drop into the teens overnight. Travelers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and possible delays.

The Hazardous Weather Outlook warns of slick roads and reduced visibility in parts of northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Officials recommend keeping emergency supplies in vehicles and reporting snowfall and ice conditions to the National Weather Service through their app.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring breezy conditions with highs near 25, continuing the region’s trend of milder temperatures compared to earlier in the week.
