Duluth, MN – Dangerous wind chills of 30 to 35 below zero are set to grip northern Minnesota tonight and continue into Sunday morning. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect, alongside a Wind Advisory for portions of the North Shore, including areas near Highway 61. Strong gusts of up to 45 mph could create whiteout conditions and a heightened risk of frostbite.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chills this extreme can lead to frostbite on exposed skin in under 10 minutes. Residents and travelers are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in multiple layers, and ensure emergency kits are in vehicles. Windy conditions will persist through Saturday morning, with some relief expected by Sunday afternoon.

Looking ahead, Sunday will remain cold, with sunny skies and a high near 12°F, but breezy conditions will keep the wind chill in the single digits. Monday offers slight improvement, with temperatures reaching 16°F under mostly sunny skies. The cold returns Tuesday, with highs of 11°F and gusty northwest winds.

If driving along Highway 61 or visiting the Arrowhead region, expect icy roads and reduced visibility. The NWS advises using caution while traveling and keeping updated via weather.gov for real-time alerts.

Stay prepared and prioritize safety during this weekend’s bitterly cold conditions.
