Grand Forks, ND – Motorists across southeast North Dakota and west-central Minnesota are urged to exercise caution as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. Tuesday. Freezing drizzle and light freezing rain are expected to create slick road conditions, especially along major routes like I-29 and Highway 2.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the advisory was extended early Monday to include the overnight period. While freezing drizzle is difficult to detect on radar, conditions may deteriorate quickly in affected areas. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time through the advisory area, which spans from Grand Forks southward into portions of Minnesota.

Temperatures are forecast to hover near 12°F overnight, with light winds from the north-northwest keeping visibility reduced due to mist and fog. By Tuesday afternoon, conditions are expected to improve, with highs near 27°F and cloudy skies.

Looking ahead to the holiday week, Christmas Day in the region will bring a welcome break from hazardous conditions. The forecast predicts mostly cloudy skies with a high near 31°F and light southerly winds. However, another system on Thursday may bring a slight chance of rain or freezing rain as temperatures climb to 33°F.

Travelers should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and report any freezing drizzle or hazardous conditions in their area to local authorities.
