East Grand Forks, MN – Dangerous cold continues across Minnesota this weekend, with subzero temperatures and life-threatening wind chills as low as -39. Residents are urged to stay indoors and bundle up if venturing out, as frostbite can occur in minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Saturday. Daytime highs on Saturday are expected to hover near -9 degrees, with wind chills making it feel like -28. Tonight, temperatures will plunge to -16, with wind chills dropping to -30.

Sunday offers slight relief with sunny skies and a high of -4, but wind chills of -31 will persist. Travel could be hazardous, particularly along I-29 and surrounding rural areas, where icy conditions and blowing snow are possible.

The extended forecast predicts mostly cloudy skies Monday with a high near -7, followed by slightly warmer temperatures Tuesday, peaking at 2 degrees. However, lows will remain in the negative teens each night, keeping frostbite risks elevated.

Precautions are vital. Wear layered clothing, hats, gloves, and insulated footwear. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle if traveling and monitor updated forecasts for any changes in advisories.

For those planning outdoor activities, ensure limited exposure to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Local shelters are open for those seeking warmth, and heating assistance programs are available for residents in need.
