Minneapolis, Minnesota – A spring chill is making a comeback in Minnesota just as the weekend begins, with patchy frost threatening crops and gardens across the southern and central parts of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, temperatures are expected to dip to near or just below freezing Friday night into early Saturday. While this cold snap won’t linger long, it could still cause damage to sensitive plants, especially in rural zones east of the Twin Cities and along the I-90 corridor.
Residents in counties including Wright, Rice, and Goodhue should take steps now to protect outdoor vegetation. Bring potted plants indoors and cover garden beds tonight if you’re in an area prone to frost. While Minneapolis will hover just above the freezing mark, suburbs and low-lying areas may not be as lucky.
After the frosty start, spring quickly returns. Saturday and Sunday bring sunny skies and rising temperatures—hitting the mid-60s Saturday and soaring to 76°F by Sunday. Winds stay light and skies clear throughout the weekend, making it a perfect setup for outdoor plans once the frost threat ends.
Next week, the warming trend continues. Expect sunshine Monday and Tuesday with highs in the low to mid-70s. No major weather hazards are expected through Thursday.
