East Grand Forks, MN – Arctic air will grip East Grand Forks and surrounding areas this week, keeping wind chills dangerously low. Travelers along Highway 2 should prepare for bitter conditions and possible slick spots as temperatures plummet through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday will remain partly sunny, with a high near 7°F, followed by nighttime lows of -6°F and wind chill values as low as -19°F. Tuesday brings more subzero temperatures, with highs around 3°F and lows dipping near -4°F. Wind chills will hover between -20°F and -30°F, making outdoor exposure hazardous.
Snow showers are possible west of the Red River Valley on Monday afternoon and could impact roads through central North Dakota. Winds will remain calm but could pick up later in the week.
By Wednesday, temperatures will slightly “warm,” with highs nearing 13°F. However, morning lows will still hover near -10°F. Overnight into Thursday, the chance for snow increases across the area, with up to 30% precipitation expected by Thursday afternoon.
Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, especially during morning and evening hours when frost and icy patches are most likely. Those venturing outdoors should wear multiple layers, gloves, and a hat to prevent frostbite. Pets should also be kept indoors whenever possible during this extreme cold.
Looking ahead, Friday promises sunnier skies and a high near 18°F, but winds could still make temperatures feel colder.
