Duluth, MN – Frigid temperatures are set to grip northern Minnesota this weekend, with highs struggling to rise above single digits. Wind chill values will plummet, making conditions hazardous for those outdoors for extended periods.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, Saturday morning wind chills could drop as low as -25°F in some areas, particularly along the North Shore. A Cold Weather Advisory may be issued as early as Friday evening, with residents urged to limit outdoor exposure and ensure pets are sheltered.
Saturday’s high is forecast to reach just 9°F, while overnight temperatures could dip to -3°F. Blustery northwest winds of up to 20 mph will make it feel significantly colder. The weather service also advises motorists to prepare for slick conditions on highways, including US-53 and MN-61, as wind-driven snow reduces visibility in open areas.
Snowfall along the South Shore in northwest Wisconsin is expected to taper off Friday night. However, Iron County remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until early Saturday, with an additional 1–2 inches possible in areas like Hurley and Saxon.
Looking ahead, Sunday will bring slightly warmer temperatures, with highs near 12°F and calmer winds. Early next week offers a break from the cold, with sunshine and highs approaching the mid-teens by Monday.
Residents are advised to bundle up, check road conditions before traveling, and report any snow accumulation to local authorities.
