Minneapolis, MN – An arctic air mass is sweeping across Minnesota, ushering in plummeting temperatures and dangerously cold wind chills this week. Residents should prepare for frigid conditions that could disrupt travel and outdoor plans as early as Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities, temperatures will drop into the low teens Thursday and hover near single digits through the weekend. By Friday night, wind chills are expected to dip below zero, posing a risk for frostbite with prolonged outdoor exposure. Northwest winds at 10 to 15 mph will add to the biting cold.

The extended forecast reveals a high of 15°F on Friday, followed by an even colder night with lows near 2°F. Saturday brings a slight warming trend, with highs reaching 13°F, but a 20% chance of snow late Saturday night could create slick road conditions for parts of southern and western Minnesota.

Drivers are urged to check road conditions on key routes like I-94 and Highway 52 before heading out this weekend. Cold-sensitive individuals should limit time outdoors and dress in layers to stay protected from the extreme cold.

Sunny skies are expected Friday, but the bitter temperatures will persist. Northwest winds are forecast to subside by Sunday, offering a modest reprieve as highs reach 16°F. The snow threat will diminish early Sunday, setting the stage for clearer skies heading into next week.
