Minneapolis, MN – A winter storm is set to sweep across Minnesota late Saturday into Sunday, bringing freezing rain and snow. Officials warn of hazardous travel conditions, especially in northern regions near Lake of the Woods.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring up to 0.10 inches of ice accumulation, creating slippery roads and sidewalks. Northern Minnesota could see up to 2-4 inches of snow on top of the ice, compounding travel risks. Snowfall rates may intensify Sunday afternoon, reducing visibility on highways.

Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare emergency kits in their vehicles. The weather service advises checking road conditions frequently and delaying travel if possible.

The freezing rain is expected to impact northeastern North Dakota and southeast Manitoba as well. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to monitor updates and stay indoors during peak conditions.

As winter tightens its grip, Minnesotans are reminded to stock up on essential supplies and check on vulnerable neighbors. For the latest updates, follow your local National Weather Service office.
