Duluth, MN – A large storm system is set to impact northern Minnesota early this week, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and hazardous conditions to the region. Rainfall totals of up to 3 inches are expected on the North Shore, while Lake Superior faces gale warnings starting Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the storm will arrive late Monday night, intensifying through Tuesday. Winds on Lake Superior are forecasted to exceed 35 mph, making small craft navigation dangerous. Rain will taper off Wednesday, followed by colder air and a chance of light snow. Travelers on Highway 61 and those near Lake Superior should remain cautious as high winds and slick roads may impact travel.
Storm impacts include 1–2 inches of rain across most areas, with localized flooding possible in low-lying zones. Residents should secure outdoor objects and prepare for sudden weather changes. Light snow accumulation of less than an inch could develop between Wednesday and Thursday as temperatures drop into the low 30s.
Looking ahead, dry conditions will return Thursday, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 30s by the weekend. However, colder air could trigger overnight frost, making it critical to protect sensitive plants.
