Minnesota Braces for Extreme Cold: Dangerous Wind Chills Expected Through Midweek

Minneapolis, MN – A brutal Arctic blast will grip Minnesota this week, with dangerously cold wind chills expected to drop as low as -40°F. Residents should prepare for extreme cold conditions, which could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

According to the National Weather Service, a Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect from midnight Sunday through 10 a.m. Monday, followed by an Extreme Cold Watchlate Monday night through Tuesday morning. Wind chill values could plummet to -39°F, with highs struggling to reach single digits through midweek.

Monday, Presidents Day, will see a high near 2°F with wind chills making it feel much colder. Tuesday’s high will barely reach 2°F again, with overnight lows dipping to -13°F. A gradual warm-up is expected late in the week, with highs reaching the mid-20s by Saturday.

Residents should dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors. If traveling, carry an emergency kit and monitor weather alerts.
