DULUTH, MN – A bitter cold front is sweeping through Minnesota this week, bringing dangerously low temperatures and wind chills as cold as -30°F. Residents in Duluth and across the northern part of the state should prepare for icy roads, subzero lows, and frigid wind chills expected through at least Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the coldest temperatures will arrive Monday night and last through Thursday. Daytime highs will struggle to reach double digits, with lows plunging into the teens and 20s below zero. Wind gusts of up to 20 mph will push wind chills dangerously low, increasing the risk of frostbite in just minutes.
Motorists should take extra precautions, as icy patches are expected on major routes, including I-35 and Highway 53. Authorities warn that black ice and reduced visibility could make travel treacherous, especially in the mornings.
The cold spell is expected to ease slightly by Friday, but temperatures will remain below normal. Residents should dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
