Minneapolis, MN – A powerful winter storm is bringing blizzard conditions across southern Minnesota, with heavy snowfall and strong winds creating hazardous travel conditions. The Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 3 p.m. Wednesday for several counties, including Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Freeborn, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Rice, Steele, Waseca, Watonwan, and Goodhue.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts up to 45 mph and additional snowfall of 1 to 3 inches will continue to impact the region. Whiteout conditions have been reported, making travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has advised that many roads in the affected area are either closed or deemed unsafe for travel.

The storm is primarily affecting areas from Mankato to Minneapolis and eastward, with blowing and drifting snow reducing visibility. In southern Minnesota, particularly along a New Ulm to Cannon Falls line, the combination of strong winds and heavy snow is exacerbating dangerous road conditions. The snow is expected to taper off in Minnesota by late morning, while Wisconsin will see snowfall persist into early afternoon.

Residents are urged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and to carry a winter survival kit if they must venture out. For updated road conditions, travelers should check 511mn.org. Authorities warn that even after the snow ends, it will take time for roads to recover from the storm’s impact.
