La Crosse, WI – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds across southeastern Minnesota, northeastern Iowa, and western Wisconsin from late Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon. Blizzard-like conditions are possible in some areas, with significant travel disruptions expected.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin late Tuesday and continue through Wednesday. The heaviest accumulation is anticipated west of the Mississippi River, with parts of southeast Minnesota, including Rochester and Winona, potentially receiving 3 to 8 inches of snow. Portions of Wisconsin, including La Crosse, Black River Falls, and Medford, could see between 2 and 6 inches of snowfall. In northeastern Iowa, cities such as Charles City, Decorah, and Osage may receive 1 to 4 inches.

Strong winds will exacerbate conditions, with gusts reaching 40 to 50 mph. These high winds could lead to whiteout conditions, making travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. The Wednesday morning commute is expected to be particularly hazardous, with slippery roads and reduced visibility. Downed tree branches and power outages may also occur due to wind stress.

Residents are urged to prepare for potential blizzard conditions by staying informed on forecast updates and limiting travel when possible. Officials recommend having an emergency kit on hand and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready. Stay tuned to local weather updates for the latest information.
