Minneapolis, MN – Minnesota’s skies will remain smoky through at least 6 p.m. Monday, with state officials warning of unhealthy air quality levels for sensitive groups across all regions.

According to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, an Air Quality Alert remains in effect statewide as wildfire smoke from Canada continues to drift into the region. AQI levels are expected to reach Orange or even Red, indicating elevated health risks for children, older adults, and anyone with heart or lung conditions, including asthma.

The thickest smoke is expected Saturday night and again early Monday as a second wave of wildfire smoke arrives from Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Air quality may briefly improve Sunday but will likely decline again as the front stalls. Cities including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Rochester, Duluth, and Mankato are all under the advisory.

Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, especially strenuous exercise, and to keep windows closed overnight. Use of air purifiers and reduced vehicle idling are also recommended. Smoke-sensitive individuals should stay indoors, especially during peak evening hours.

This marks the second major smoke event this season in Minnesota. Another Air Quality Alert may be issued later this week if conditions worsen.
