Milwaukee, WI – Wisconsin residents should prepare for a sharp and prolonged cold snap as an Arctic front settles over the state from Thursday, December 11, through Monday, December 15. The system is expected to bring subzero wind chills, single-digit lows, and potentially dangerous cold conditions across much of Wisconsin, including Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, and La Crosse.

According to the National Weather Service, confidence is increasing that a much colder airmass will arrive late next week, dropping morning lows into the single digits and below zero in northern counties. With gusty northwest winds, wind chills could fall into the –10°F to –20°F range, especially during the early morning hours of Saturday and Sunday.

While precipitation is not expected to be significant, occasional light snow showers or flurries could accompany the arrival of the cold front. Overall, conditions will trend drier than normal, but any snow that does fall may briefly reduce visibility on rural roads.

Residents are urged to bundle up, protect pets, and check on elderly neighbors. Prolonged exposure in these temperatures can cause frostbite or hypothermia within minutes.

This Arctic outbreak marks Wisconsin’s coldest stretch of the season so far, with temperatures forecast to moderate slightly after December 16.

Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan and local emergency agencies as the cold intensifies.
