Milwaukee, WI – A high swim risk has been issued for all Lake Michigan beaches from Sheboygan to Kenosha, as dangerous conditions are expected through Sunday. Visitors and residents are strongly urged to avoid swimming due to high waves and strong winds that will create hazardous conditions along the shoreline.
According to the National Weather Service, northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, will begin today and last throughout the weekend. These winds will generate waves between 4 and 8 feet, especially near piers and break walls, where currents are even more dangerous. Life-threatening waves and strong currents make swimming incredibly risky. Beachgoers are advised to remain onshore and avoid any risky activities near the water.
Officials warn that the conditions are expected to last until Sunday afternoon. Boaters are also encouraged to exercise caution, as the high winds and choppy waters may affect smaller vessels. With these unsafe conditions, anyone planning to visit the Lake Michigan coastline should remain vigilant and heed all warnings to ensure safety.
