Chicago, IL – A multi-day severe weather event is expected to impact portions of the Midwest, Mississippi Valley, and the Southeast on Friday and Saturday, bringing the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, the most significant threat on Friday (March 14) will be across the Mississippi Valley, where tornadoes and severe wind gusts are possible. Areas from Kansas City to Memphis are at an elevated risk, with damaging storms also extending into the Ohio Valley. On Saturday (March 15), the threat shifts southward, with severe storms expected across parts of the Deep South, including Atlanta and Houston, as well as the lower Ohio Valley.

Forecasters warn that strong storms could produce wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, large hail, and tornadoes, particularly in regions marked as moderate or enhanced risk zones. The greatest threat for significant severe weather is highlighted in black dashed areas on the latest outlook map.

Residents in affected regions should monitor updates, ensure they have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued. The NWS recommends having an emergency plan in place as storms approach.
