St. Louis, MO – A dangerous storm system is set to impact the Midwest this weekend, bringing the risk of tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail across multiple states in the Mississippi and Ohio Valleys. The most severe storms are expected Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15.

According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, an intense line of thunderstorms will develop across the Mississippi Valley on Friday before shifting eastward into the Lower Ohio and Tennessee Valleys overnight. Some storms could produce wind gusts over 75 mph, large hail, and strong tornadoes, especially from the Middle Mississippi Valley into Tennessee.

By Saturday, the severe weather threat moves further east into the Deep South and Ohio Valley, with supercell thunderstorms capable of producing additional tornadoes and widespread wind damage.

Officials urge residents to prepare now by securing outdoor objects, identifying safe shelter locations, and ensuring they have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Storms moving at night pose an increased danger, as tornadoes may be harder to see.

Travel disruptions, power outages, and structural damage are possible across affected areas. Residents should monitor the latest updates from spc.noaa.gov and weather.gov to stay informed.
