Assaria, KS – A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 was recorded just south of Assaria, Kansas, late Monday night.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at 11:53 p.m. UTC (5:53 p.m. local time) at a depth of 9.9 kilometers (6.1 miles). The epicenter was located directly south of Assaria, a small town in Saline County.

Initial reports indicate that one person submitted a response to the USGS’s “Did You Feel It?” program, suggesting that the earthquake’s impact was minimal. No damage or injuries have been reported.

Kansas, particularly central and southern regions, has experienced an increase in seismic activity in recent years, often attributed to both natural and human-induced factors. The USGS continues to monitor seismic movements in the area.

Residents who felt the earthquake are encouraged to report their experiences to the USGS Citizen Scientist Contributions program to help improve earthquake tracking and research.
