San Angelo, TX – A week of frigid weather is gripping the Big Country, with temperatures struggling to rise above the 40s. Residents along the I-20 corridor can expect below-freezing lows and the potential for snow by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), today’s highs will hover in the mid-30s to lower 40s north of I-20 and in the 40s south of the highway. Winds from the east-northeast are expected at 5–10 mph, with localized gusts reaching 20 mph. Tonight, temperatures will plummet to around 24°F, with wind chills making it feel even colder.

Looking ahead, a mix of snow and freezing rain is forecast late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The NWS predicts a 40% chance of precipitation Wednesday night, increasing to 70% by Thursday afternoon. Snow accumulation is expected to remain light, but icy conditions on bridges and roadways are possible, especially along I-20.

Daytime highs on Wednesday will only reach 38°F, with wind chills between 17°F and 27°F. Thursday will bring highs near 36°F but with continued risks of freezing rain and snow. By Friday, skies will begin clearing, with temperatures rising to 40°F and lows dropping to 22°F. The weekend will offer relief, with sunny skies and highs in the 50s expected Saturday and Sunday.

Travelers should monitor weather updates and prepare for delays. Bundle up and ensure pipes, pets, and plants are protected from freezing temperatures.
