Nashville, TN – A widespread rainstorm is set to drench Middle Tennessee today, bringing heavy showers, potential flooding, and hazardous road conditions. Some areas could see over 3 inches of rain before the system moves out late Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, showers began this morning and will intensify throughout the day. The heaviest rainfall is expected during the afternoon and evening, making the commute difficult, especially along I-40, I-24, and I-65. Rainfall totals will range from 1.5 to 3 inches, with higher amounts possible in localized areas.

Flooding Risk and Travel Concerns

Drivers should remain cautious, as ponding on roadways and flash flooding could develop in flood-prone areas. The National Weather Service warns that low-lying areas, creeks, and rivers could see rapid rises. Never attempt to drive through flooded roads—turn around, don’t drown.

Weekend Outlook: A Much-Needed Dry Stretch

The rain will begin to taper off Friday afternoon, and by evening, skies will gradually clear. A warmer, sunnier weekend is ahead:

Saturday:Partly cloudy with a high near 57°Fand a low of 43°F.

Sunday:Mostly sunny, warming to 67°F, with a mild breeze.

Sunday Night:Partly cloudy, low near 48°F.

Next Week: A Warm Start Before More Rain

The warming trend continues Monday, with a high of 70°F and mostly sunny skies. Tuesday will also be warm, reaching 71°F before the next rain system moves in by midweek.

Middle Tennessee residents should stay weather-aware today, prepare for possible flooding, and take advantage of the upcoming sunshine before another round of rain returns.
