Nashville, TN – A winter storm is sweeping across Middle Tennessee, bringing up to 8 inches of snow by early Saturday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning that remains in effect until 6 a.m. CST Saturday. Heavy snow, with total accumulations between 4 and 8 inches, is expected across the region, including Nashville, Clarksville, and Murfreesboro.
According to the NWS, snow began early Friday morning and will continue through Friday night. In some areas, sleet and rain could mix with snow in the afternoon, particularly near the Tennessee-Alabama border. The agency warns of slippery roads and hazardous travel conditions, which will disrupt both morning and evening commutes on Friday.
Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Those who must travel are advised to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, water, and warm clothing. Road conditions in Tennessee can be monitored by calling 511.
The storm’s impacts are expected to peak during the late afternoon and evening hours, with reduced visibility and icy roadways posing significant risks. Preparations for power outages are also recommended, as heavy, wet snow may down tree limbs and power lines.
The NWS emphasizes that staying off the roads will help emergency responders manage the storm’s impact. The warning covers a large portion of Middle Tennessee, including Davidson, Wilson, and Williamson counties.
